Treasure Hunt
There’s no sitting down in this workshop! Try to be the first team to solve the problems and win the treasure! Developed by Reality Education, this workshop will provide the participants with all the necessary skills for developing their own Treasure Hunt activity as well as one copy of our book "Treasure Hunt."
How to Play
1) Divide the class up into 8 teams.
2) Assign each team a color.
3) Give the team the first puzzle (1).
4) Each team is to write the clue number down and the title of the puzzle. In addition to this information, they should put the answer to the puzzle. Make sure they show all of the answers including the math portion. The students should copy the picture puzzle and prove they answered each puzzle. Once they have solved a puzzle, the answer will be the clue to find the next puzzle.
5) Scoring:
10 points are awarded for each answer. This is broken down to:
3 points for being neat and easy to read
2 points for being in order
1 point for having the clue number written on it
1 point for having the puzzle name
3 points for having the answer correct (not just the final answer, but the problems as well)
15 bonus points for 1st place finish
10 bonus points for 2nd place finish
5 bonus points for 3rd place finish
If a team finishes early, they have the option of solving the remaining puzzles for a bonus of 30 points (10 points per puzzle). A scoring sheet is shown on the next page for you to use.
If a team cannot get a puzzle after a reasonable amount of time working on the answer, they can be given the answer. They should be penalized 25 points. Write down the penalty on the score sheet. You might also want to make a note of the penalty in your grade book or on your seating chart.
If a team looses their answer portfolio, they must start all over. Students should be advised that each team member should keep their own answer sheet. Only one is turned in for the final point tally. The team with the most points wins.
